Time Fly’s When You’re Having Fun!

Dear Friends of the Food Bank,

It’s hard to believe that a year has gone by since I took the helm of the Superstition Community Food Bank.

In the last year this position has taught me many things, most importantly
to be grateful for the things I have in life because circumstances can always change, and difficult times can come rolling through unexpectedly. I have met wonderful clients, made lasting friendships with volunteers, advocated politically, and have officially earned my title as the East Valley’s busiest (and craziest) “Professional Begger.”

I am excited to see what year #2 brings as we look for ways to increase our outreach in the community and continue to help those struggling to put food on the table.
Some cool things we have done this summer:

• Cookbook Library – with the help of our friends at the Apache Junction Public Library, we now have a cookbook library. Located inside our front office area are 40 cookbooks featuring many different styles of cuisine, including different dietary styles as well. We invite anyone to come in and look for a recipe, we will be glad to help you make a copy.

• 4th of July Holiday Box – this time our friends at the Apache Junction Walmart helped us put together a 4th of July Holiday box which included hot dog wieners & buns, chili (to make chili dogs of course), baked beans, macaroni salad kit, mac n cheese, mayo, mustard, ketchup and a 2 liter of root beer. It’s nice to provide these extra boxes to help those down on their luck celebrate holidays like the rest of us.

• Collaborative Effort to Feed Seniors – We want to take a moment to thank Central Arizona Council on Developmental Disabilities (CACDD) and Apache Junction Parks & Rec for their collaborative efforts, allowing us to provide food boxes to qualified senior van riders! Parks & Rec’s partnership with CACDD allows the opportunity for senior residents without transportation to participate in our congregate meal program. Now, eligible participants can be transported to the Food Bank to pick up a food box once a month.

• $40,000 Campaign– We are so very close to reaching our $40,000 goal for our 40th Anniversary through $40 donations…we need 300 more folks to donate $40 to help us raise the remaining $12,000. Help us spread the word to give the Food Bank $40. We can do it with your help!

event.

As you can see, we have many things going on at the Food Bank and it’s only possible with the help of our donors, volunteers, and community. Thank you for helping us fulfill our mission to help feed those in need.
